This catalogue of requirements may appear to be stretching
the scope, and even partially utopian. The key to combine these most diverse
concepts and criteria is design.
Design, not understood in the way of ,styling' - although the outward
appearance has no small priority - but as a heading for an integral, attuned
development of the individual modules. Maximum safety, for example, is
to be achieved in the Smart Rider's Outfit on every level and not to be
limited to passive safety only. High-tech materials offering an enhanced
degree of protection like Armacor or carbon fibre composite materials
are a contribution toward this aim just as important as reflective materials
for optimum visibility, an optimised individual fit for long riding periods
without tiring or sophisticated aero-acoustics striving to combine minimum
noise levels with optimum acoustic perception of the surroundings. Design
is the prerequisite for maximum comfort if it manages to combine the above
mentioned criteria of usability, aerodynamics, modular design and climate
control in the development stage already. And finally, it is design, understood
the right way, that helps to make state-of-the-art electronic equipment
become user friendly - only thereby justifying its employment in the first
place.
