In 1950, Roger Störling founded the family business 'AB Sportsbeklädnad Urheiluvaatetus Oy', starting off manufacturing the earliest products at home in his kitchen. Steady growth eventually led to industrial-scale production of rain wear and sailing apparel in 1956.

Rukka first presented their Gore-Tex clothing for motorcyclists at the International Cycle and Motorbike Show IFMA in Cologne in 1986. They had previously made a name for themselves with robust motorcycle rain suits. Since 1990, Rukka has been an independent division of the L-Fashion Group Oy, one of Europe's largest sports wear manufacturers based in Lahti, Finland. L-Fashion quality products are exported to a total of 32 countries all over the world.

One of the Finnish company's main principles has always been to have direct control over the development, production and distribution of its products. Finland and Portugal are the most important production plants. This European solution guarantees high quality on the one hand and a perfect fit on the other hand, and is thus a key factor to the unique quality of Rukka products.

After decades of experience, Rukka uses only branded goods from renowned manufacturers who hold a top position on the market and meet the highest standards. Gore-Tex, Cordura, Outlast, CoolMax, Kevlar and Scotchlite are just some of the materials used to make Rukka functional high-tech clothing. Close cooperation with academic research institutions and most renowned industrial partners like DuPont and W.L. Gore Inc., as well as the strictest quality control imaginable, form the basis for a full five-year warranty offered by Rukka on all products of the motorcycling collections.
